Reasons to service your Air Conditioner for summer comfort in the Yarra valley

It’s commonly known, that if you neglect the servicing of your car – then at some point…..you will have a costly breakdown and repair bill. The same rule applies to Air Conditioning and Refrigeration equipment. So whether you are enjoying yourself in the Yarra Valley, lazing around in Adelaide or looking to beat the heat by the beach somewhere in between, read on for why you should service your Air Conditioner for summer comfort.

Air Conditioning (and Refrigeration) equipment all have moving parts, most have some form of gas maintained under pressure and a large number of them have some part of the system exposed to the elements. These three factors – either collectively or individually, do not perform well with neglect. Regular servicing is important to ensure that all parts are working as they should be, with the system “tuned” to its peak performance. Much like a car, when the system is running correctly, it draws less power and lasts longer.

Some quick examples of why maintenance is needed;

Fans – these are naturally a regularly moving part and typically have a bearing at their center. Dirt or grit can interfere with this, causing the fan to seize or damage its blades. Fans in the ceiling can also be damaged by rodents or debris.

Cables, Controls & Piping – like the accelerator cable in your car, without these your system will not work. Dents to pipes, broken brackets, chewed cables and broken control lines are all common reasons why air conditioning systems don’t work correctly.

Gas – is used as a refrigerant to absorb and transfer heat in many systems. When everything is working correctly, the gas is captured in a closed system. When it’s not, you have a gas leak, which needs to found, fixed and then new gas added. Consider gas like the oil in your engine, without it – things get hot quickly!

Covers – on outside units can take a pounding from the weather. Even though they are built tough, the sun, rain, sea air or other local factor can damage the outside covers and put your whole system in jeopardy.

Air Flow – both through the system and around Air Conditioners is important to transfer heat. If your filters are clogged, then not only are you breathing air which has been pumped though the dirt in the filter, but you are killing your air conditioning unit and increasing your power bill. Outside, your unit should have clearance from weeds and other rubbish, as it needs to be able to breathe to dispel heat.

These are only a few of the reasons for servicing Air Conditioning and Refrigeration equipment – but all have the ability to replace a small service call with a major breakdown and convert a service charge into a major repair. So to ensure that your summer is a comfortable one without unexpected repair bills – book in for a service call today.
