How important is servicing my Air Conditioning Unit
Air Conditioning units come in a variety of shapes, sizes and configurations, but common to them all is some form of heat exchange – so regular servicing of your Air Conditioning unit is important.
With the exchange of heat, either drawing heat from a room and cooling it (cooling cycle) or warming cold air (heating cycle), puts expansion and contraction pressures on the materials used in the air conditioning unit. Naturally units are designed for this, but like any piece of equipment – it needs to be serviced to ensure it is working within the manufactures operating range for that item. Naturally when a unit is not running correctly, this is when issues occur.
Most businesses we find, service their cars because they don’t want them to break down due to the cost and inconvenience. So it is surprising so many businesses don’t service their air-conditioning and refrigeration equipment – yet they rely on this equipment to operate.
Here are six clear reasons why you should be servicing your equipment;
- Energy/Running Cost blow out.Poorly maintained equipment does not run as efficiently, so it draws more energy (electricity/gas) to do the same job.
- OHS for staff and customers.This could be poor air quality, too hot, too cold, or food or drug issues due to erratic temperatures in refrigerated/controlled environments.
- Warranty on equipment.Some equipment warranties require normal servicing – much like a car, so if you ignore the servicing, you may lose the warranty well short of its time.
- Risk to the Business.Temperate control for some is not only “nice to have” but is critical to the operation. Lack of ventilation may be unsafe or unworkable, or lack of refrigeration may mean you can’t hold stock!
- Forward planning.Some of the commercial units are large and expensive items, so to replace one of these is often a financial strain. Regular servicing not only extends the life of the old unit, but also provides early warning of what will be required and when.
- Prevention is better than the cure.The breakdown of equipment always causes stress for our customers, as it is unplanned and creates “extra” problems. Proactive servicing of equipment reduces the risk of unexpected breakdowns – as we are progressively fixing/replacing items before they break.
So to ensure that your equipment runs reliability and efficiency, whilst minimising the chances of breakdown – we recommend that you service your air conditioning equipment regularly by appropriately trained technicians.
